  UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE
The UNESCO World Heritage List includes properties forming part of the cultural and natural heritage which the World Heritage Committee considers as having outstanding universal value.



NATURA NETWORK 2000
 

The Natura Network 2000 is a European Union program intending to help maintain biodiversity.
Every participating country, with the aim to preserve, protect and enhance the environment, designated specific areas and included them in the network, in an effort to protect their biodiversity.
The Natura Network 2000 is constituted by the Sites of Community Importance (SCI) pursuant to Council Directive 92/43/EEC and the Special Protection Areas (SPA) for birds designated according to the 79/409/EEC Directive.
In Greece, the Natura Network 2000 is particularly wide with a great number of protected areas being located in the vicinity of the Egnatia Motorway.

RAMSAR CONVENTION


 
The Ramsar Convention was signed on February 2nd, 1971 in the Iranian city of the same name and entered into force on December 21st, 1975. Greece was the 7th country to sign and ratify this treaty by virtue of the Presidential Decree 191/74 establishing 10 protected wetlands which are included in the list of Ramsar Wetlands of International Importance. 7 out of the 10 Ramsar sites are located in the vicinity of the Egnatia Motorway.
